   Sterilization
Protecting our patients and ourselves from the risk of infection and/or communicable diseases is a top priority at SunBird Dental. Our OSHA coordinators attend yearly update conferences and our sterilization procedures always meet or exceed the requirements. Teresa Payne is a registered nurse who has worked with her husband, Dr. Payne, to insure that our team, and our patients, are kept safe.

We use "universal precautions" at all times to prevent cross-contamination. All handpieces and instruments are heat sterilized and bagged to remain sterile until we open them just for you. Anything that is not sterilized is disposable and we thoroughly disinfect all contact areas such as countertops. We use special procedures to dispose of infectious materials or hazardous wastes. Every precaution is taken to insure the safety of our patients, our staff and our community.

   Facility
Our facility is designed with the special needs and safety of our patients in mind. The entire facility is wheelchair accessible and accommodations can be made for patients with almost any special need. Our treatment rooms are oversized both for the comfort of our patients and for the ease of handling any medical emergency that might arise.
All treatment rooms have their own air supply and ductwork with 20% of the circulated air coming from the outside to keep the air fresh. For patients with chronic allergies to environmental substances, or patients who cannot tolerate normal commercial facility environment, we have the ability to ionize the air in the office during their visits.

   Emergency Preparedness
Part of keeping our patients safe is being prepared to take care of medical emergencies. Not only is the facility designed to make this as efficient as possible, we also have a communication system with a "panic" button so that the doctor can be called to any area of the office in seconds. Our staff is CPR certified and the 911 response time from McPherson Memorial is less than five minutes. We always hope that this level of preparedness will not be necessary, but we take being prepared very seriously, just in case.
